Oceania 7s - Fiji and Samoa unbeaten on Day One Underline 29 October, 2011
Tournament hosts Samoa and Digicel Fiji look the sides to beat after day one of the Oceania 7s in Apia, Samoa. Both teams progressed through their respective pools unbeaten. Samoa eased through their pool which included a comprehensive thumping of defending champions Australia, 35-12.

Fiji though were equally impressive as they topped their pool without conceding a single point, holding all their opponents to nil including racking up the highest score of the day – a 61-nil trouncing of American Samoa.

Impressive for Fiji on day one has been Nadroga’s Aporosa Tabulawaki with five tries in total and the abrasive Levani Veivukei who scored a hat trick of tries against American Samoa.

There were no major upsets day one, though Papua New Guinea did extremely well in the day's opening game by holding Tonga 19-all while Niue came within seven points of up-setting Australia but just losing out in the end 24-17.

Fiji is now scheduled to meet the Cook Islands in the first game of Day Two due to kick off at 12:00 PM (Samoa time).
