With the Digicel Cup season a little over two weeks away Tailevu fans are in for a wee surprise with the colours of their team having changed from the traditional green and yellow to the rather more ambitious red and white.
It is believed the change came about upon a request from Tailevu high chief Ratu Epenisa Cakobau who wanted the colours to reflect more meaningfully the province of Tailevu.
The colours – red and white – signify the colours of former Bauan high chief Ratu Cakobau’s ensign while the green and yellow were the inherited colours when the Tailevu team was formerly known as Rewa.
Time will soon tell how the changes will be received by Tailevu fans when the new ‘red and whites’ host Nadi in their opening fixture on 5 March at Ratu Cakobau Park.
No doubt many Tailevu fans will hope the change in colour will also result in a change in fortunes for their team who failed to make the semi-finals of the Digicel Cup last season.
