The Digicel Fiji 7s team bow out as runners-up at the London 7s. |
South Africa beat Fiji 24-14 to win the Emirates Airline London Sevens at Twickenham on a day which also saw New Zealand crowned 2010/11 HSBC Sevens World Series champions with one tournament remaining.
After going 14-0 ahead within four minutes of the kick-off, Digicel Fiji eventually succumbed to the greater scrummaging power of the Springboks as Paul Treu’s men closed the game out. A crucial midfield switch for Fiji, when there was space on the wing, was probably the turning point in the second half.
Despite the loss fans, who tweeted their opinions, reckon it to have been a great effort from a talented squad who never stopped entertaining:

The London Sevens set a new Series record of 100,094 crowd across the two days, the other finals saw Samoa beat Australia to take the Plate, Scotland overcome Kenya to win the Bowl and hosts England beat Portugal to claim the Shield.
The final round of the World Series takes place on 28-29 May, the Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens at Murrayfield.
