Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was the chief guest last evening at the Digicel Fiji 7s team’s farewell dinner ahead of their departure on Monday to the England and Scotland legs of the HSBC World Sevens Series (WSS) – the final two tournaments in the Series.
In officially farewelling the team the Prime Minister urged the players to do their very best in what will be the final stage of the Series.
“I’d like you all to go and play your best and not to worry about the weight of expectations that surrounds you, but play to the best of your ability and if you should win then that would be a bonus, no one can ask for anymore than for you to do your very best,” Bainimarama said.
Also on hand to farewell the team was the Kids’ Praise Dance Team from the Christian Mission Fellowship based in Kinoya. The kids delighted the Digicel Fiji 7s team and guests with a number of skits and action songs and even received special mention from the Prime Minister.
“I’d like to thank the children for their delightful performance this evening and I do hope they have inspired our boys,” Bainimarama said.
The Digicel Fiji 7s team currently lies in fifth place on the HSBC WSS table on 90 points. New Zealand lead the table with 134 points.
