Namosi claim Nausori 7s crown
05 February, 2011
Namosi 2 claimed their second title in the Fiji TV Provincial 7s Series after disposing of a game Northland 1 side 19-7 in the final. Despite the relatively comfortable win it was a final which was dominated, in terms of territory and possession at least, by the runners-up.

It was Northland’s inspirational centre Aisake Katonibau who opened the scoring in the fourth minute when the Namosi defense opened up in centre field. Katonibau needed no further invitation as he pinned his ears back and headed for the goal line, touching down under the posts.
Katonibau converted to give Northland a 7-nil lead.
Northland continued to dominate proceedings but as soon as Namosi got hold of some decent possession they immediately turned it into points when Sailosi Rabonaqica found his skipper Sakenasa Aca unmarked out wide in centre field.
Aca touched down under the posts and Namosi were level against the run of play.
With Northland pressuring Namosi in its own half Aca again got his team out of jail when he threw a probing pass that unleashed little scrumhalf Apenisa Dralia who rocketed away to score under the posts after the halftime buzzer had sounded.
It was more of the same in the second half as Northland once again dominated. However an attacking scrum went against them and from the ensuing play Mesulame Soga sped away to score in the corner. It was a case of Namosi taking the opportunities when they were presented.
Soga’s try proved to be the only score of the second stanza as Northland ran out of steam in the dying moments allowing Namosi 2 to hold on for what was in the end a comfortable victory.
The next leg in the Fiji TV Provincial Series will be the provincial finals to be held at the National Stadium in Suva on February 19.
