The Fiji Rugby Union has today appointed Inoke Male as head coach of the Fiji Under 20 team to the Junior World Championship in Italy.
A former Fiji Naval officer, Male was head coach of the Air Pacific Fiji Warriors team that won the Pacific Rugby Cup in 2010 and assistant coach when the Warriors won in 2009. In addition to his role with the Warriors, Male has also been an assistant coach with the Flying Fijians over the last two seasons (2009 and 2010) on the team’s Europe Tour.
In announcing the appointment FRU chief executive officer Keni Dakuidreketi revealed the FRU is banking on Male’s experience to maintain the Fiji U20 position within the top teams in world rugby at that level.
“With the experience Male has with local players as well as coaching at the highest levels of the game we’re confident his experience will help maintain or improve Fiji’s ranking at number eight at the Junior World Championship,” Dakuidreketi said.
Assisting Male with the Fiji U20 team will be former Digicel Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula who has been appointed the backline coach.
“Tanivula as a player and coach has a wealth of knowledge behind him and it would be amiss not to use someone of his calibre to develop the game within Fiji.”
Nadroga’s continued domination of provincial rugby has been rewarded by the appointment of Nadroga team manager Paula Biu to manage the Fiji U20 team to the JWC along with trainer Lasarusa Cawanibuka who has been appointed the strength and conditioning coach.
The full Fiji U20 team management to the JWC is as follows:
Manager: Paula Biu
Head Coach: Inoke Male
Assistant Coach: Iliesa Tanivula (Backline Coach).
S&C Coach: Lasarusa Cawanibuka
Doctor: Maloni Bulaiyanuca
Physiotherapist: Alena Lawena
Meanwhile the FRU has also announced the appointment today of Sale Sorovaki as Manager of the Digicel Fiji 7s team. Sorovaki will manage the team to the London and Scotland 7s respectively.
