Kunatuba names Fijiana training squad Underline 29 November, 2011
Elenoa Kunatuba.
Fijiana coach Elenoa Kunatuba has named a national training squad to begin preparations for next year’s Seven’s World Cup Qualifiers. The players were selected after their performances during the Fiji TV Sigatoka 7s, played on 12 November, and last weekend’s Tagimoucia 7s held at the Suva Grammar School Grounds in Suva.

“The players have been selected now as I believe we must begin in earnest our preparations, since the World Cup 7’s qualifiers are fast approaching,” Kunatuba said.

Kunatuba, who is also the Oceania Women’s Rugby Development Officer, has been impressed by the commitment and performances shown by many of Fiji’s top female players. This is despite the fact some members of her Pacific Games gold medal winning squad are, for a number of reasons, currently unavailable for selection.

“Some of the players that went to the Pacific Games have been left out due to non participation, work commitments and personal issues so a further selection process will be done again next year,” Kunatuba said.

Meanwhile last Saturday’s Tagimoucia 7s proved a real success with top local side Marist Seahawks Red seeing of the visitors from China - Anhui, in the final, winning 22-5.

All players named in the national training squad will be required to attend a fitness test at the HPU Gym in Suva on Friday, 2 December at 9:00 AM. For further details on the fitness test players are required to contact Elenoa on 7071025.
