Ropate Ratu out in the cold. |
With the 6 Nations starting last weekend and France's premier division - the Top 14 - taking a break, the focus was on the French professional second division - PRO 2, with some outstanding performances from Fijians based there, not least Jone Daunivucu's two tries for Grenoble in their 67-18 victory at home.
This took his tally for the season to seven and Grenoble up to third in the table.
At the head of the try-scoring league you will find fellow Fijian Timoci Matanavou (Mont De Marsan) with ten, though he did not add to his total on Saturday.
But perhaps pride of place goes to the three "Lyonnais" Fijians - Mosese Ratuvou, Waisele Suka and Vinaya Waka, who have helped their team (Lyon) to the top of the table and well placed for automatic promotion to the Top 14 with ten games left to play.
And just spare a thought for Ropate Ratu at Aurillac playing week in and week out at the coldest ground on the pro circuit. They clear the playing surface of snow before each home game.
The Top 14 swings back into action this weekend with the chance for more Fijians to shine in the absence of players tied up in the 6 Nations.
Meanwhile in England Nemani Nadolo
(see last week's story) made his debut for the Chiefs at the weekend but Exeter lost 17-3.
On the grapevine Sisa Koyamaibole looks set for a possible move from Sale Sharks in England to Toulouse this summer; if it goes through, he'll be competing for the number 8 spot with Louis Picamoles and Shaun Sowerby of South Africa. The latter has a contract until 2012, but with an option to move this summer.
Moce all.
