The national under 20 squad will march into camp next week. Coached by former National Skipper, Sale Sorovaki, the team has one month to prepare before flying out to South Africa for the Junior World Championships (JWC).
Seven overseas based players have been identified to join the team, and will do so on 13 May.
Local based players have been putting in the hard yards during training and Sorovaki says he is pleased with their performance so far.
“Most of our local based players have been very diligent in their attendance, and have also been playing for their provincial unions in the Digicel Cup which is very pleasing” he said.
A likely inclusion in the squad is Digicel 7s rep Avenisi Vusuinubu who Sorovaki has been impressed with.
“He’s a hard working player who’s had the experience of top international rugby playing for the DIgicel Fiji 7s team in the Sevens World Series earlier this year.”
Fiji is currently ranked sixth in the JWC standings and are in Pool A with four time champions and current JWC cup holders New Zealand, Pacific Island neighbors Samoa and Wales whom they defeated last year 34 – 20.
Fiji plays Wales in the opening match on the 4th of June, at the Danie Craven Stadium.
