The Fiji U20 team went down fighting against a strong France U20 side by 24-12 in Rovigo, Italy this morning. The young Fijians dominated in the scrum but could only manage four penalties against the French who were solid in defense.

France opened the scoring in the 8th minute through a penalty to centre Jean Pascal Barraque. They then followed this with tries in the 21st and 33rd minutes through Sebastien Taofifenua and Clement Bourgeois respectively. Both tries were converted by the impressive Barraque.

Fiji’s only points of the first-half came through a solitary 25th minute penalty from inside centre Solomone Rasolea.

It was an improved performance from Fiji in the second half restricting France to a solitary penalty try while winger Josateki Lalagavesi was successful with three penalties.

Fiji’s next game is against Australia on 14 June.
