The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) countdown clock is now up and running on www.fijirugby.com. The clock, located in the top right hand corner of the main page, ticks away the seconds to Fiji’s first game against Namibia on September 10.
However, while the idea of the countdown clock enables more focus on Fiji’s journey to the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC), the idea is not an original one as the FRU’s operation’s manager Vilikesa Rinavuaka reveals.
“Whilst I’d like to claim the idea of the countdown clock as ours it’s actually an idea we borrowed from the International Rugby Board who sent around a Rugby World Cup countdown clock that ticked away to the start of the 2011 RWC,” Rinavuaka said.
“We’ve just been a little cheeky in turning it around and making the clock countdown to the start of Fiji’s first game against Namibia.”
The official Rugby World Cup countdown clock can be viewed by visiting
www.rugbyworldcup.com.
One can only hope both clocks are running on time and have taken into account daylight savings and clocks moving backwards or forwards at various points in the year, otherwise at least one of the clocks could end up being on Fiji time.
