The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) today extended its partnership with the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited (FBCL) for a further two years with FBCL chief executive officer Riyaz Khaiyum delighted with his company’s ongoing relationship with the FRU.
“We’re just very pleased to be signing this agreement with Fiji Rugby Union and this year we have agreed to a two year contract and I think this augurs well for the development of rugby in the country,” Khaiyum said.
With FBCL spreading its reach across Fiji, Khaiyum believes FBCL will have much to offer Fiji Rugby in the coming months.
“As Fiji Broadcasting Corporation grows in terms of being the fastest growing media company in the country we hope to be able to offer to the Fiji Rugby Union more incentives in terms of continuing their relationship with us.”
Khaiyum believes FBCL’s soon to be on air television station will be an additional carrot in cementing an already strong relationship.
” The worst kept secret in town is that we will be starting off a television station sometime this year and we will have some really interesting things to offer to the Fiji Rugby Union.”
FRU CEO Keni Dakuidreketi believes FBCL’s role is instrumental to Fiji Rugby’s desire to promote the game.
“We know that you (FBCL) are growing as a corporation and we’d like to be a partner in that growth and, as you know, the game of rugby has a tremendous following throughout the country and certainly with your assistance we will help keep carrying that message across to the population,” Dakuidreketi said.
Along with FBCL the Fiji Rugby Union’s other media partners include Communications Fiji Limited and the Fiji Sun, while Fiji Television are sponsors of the Fiji TV Provincial Sevens Series.
