Tailevu Defeats Rewa 24 - 3
06 July, 2012
Tailevu scored a bonus try victory defeating Rewa 24 – 3 in their Digicel Cup Competition earlier this evening at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
Rewa who currently sits at the bottom of the points table played with urgency in the first half to cause an upset and defeat table leaders Tailevu, but luck wasn’t on their side as unforced errors and wrong options saw them go down fighting to the hosts.
Tailevu played with determination to maintain their winning streak and ten minutes after kick off and a scrum five metres from the try line, nippy Scrum Half Henry Seniloli threw a quick ball to Openside Flanker Aminiasi Nava who barged over the score line taking with him two Rewan defenders. Conversion though by Fly Half Sunia Bainivalu was unsuccessful.
The visitors kept Tailevu at bay with good defense and were awarded a penalty which was slotted in by Full Back Netani Siga.
Tailevu led by a thin margin at the breather 5 – 3.
The second half proved to be a nail biter, as both teams defended their territory, but Tailevu finally found their opponents weakness and managed to score two tries in the same corner, to Outside Centre Nemani Turagaulu.
Frustration from both teams saw numerous scuffles break out between the two, with referee Petero Misaele sending Tailevu wing Sanaila Vitau off the field to cool off in the bin.
Rewa’s attempts to fend off the hosts and capitalize on points by sending in fresh legs were in vain as Tailevu countered every attack they made that kept the low turnout crowd entertained.
Tailevu having the last say in the match with replacement Inside Back Seru Cavuilati scoring their fourth try three minutes from full time sealing their victory 24 – 3.
