Tailevu remains unbeaten in the Digicel Cup competition.
This was after the Tebara Bus- sponsored Tailevu side beat Naitasiri 16- 13 in the soggy and muddy Ratu Cakobau Park yesterday.
Naitasiri started with a bang scoring their first try in the first minute which was converted by Kolinio Vunaki. He also kicked two penalties for Naitasiri to lead 13-0.
The Highlanders took control of the game in the first 20 minutes with Tailevu trying their best to cross their try line but to no avail.
However, Tailevu managed to cross the Naitasiri try line on the 23rd minute scoring a try. Nippy halfback Henry Seniloli kicked another penalty for Naitasiri to lead 13- 10 at halftime.
Tailevu securing the services of soldiers Leone Nakarawa and Mosese Vasuitoga tried their best however the defence from a strong and determined Naitasiri side prevented them from scoring another try.
However, replacement halfback Sunia Bainivalu booted his penalty to give them the 16- 13 lead in the last minute of the game.
Tailevu coach, Lance Whippy congratulated his boys for a job well done. He said both teams stood up and did their best and they were fortunate to have the last penalty to give them the win.
He said the onus now lies on the boys to understand what they want as they prepare for the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Naitasiri coach Reverend Joji Rinakama gave credit to his boys for playing according to plan in the first 26 minutes.
He added they were lucky to have played Tailevu in their last game and they have learned a lot from an unbeaten team in the season.
The other semifinal will be between Nadroga and Suva. Nadroga beat Northland 15-6 while Suva thrashed Vatukoula 32-11.
