Cakau to Miss Gold Coast 7s Underline 19 September, 2012 The Digicel Fiji 7s team will be without their captain Setefano Cakau for the Gold Coast leg of the 2012/2013 HSBC World 7s series.

Cakau will be leaving for Sri Lanka for two weeks to take care of some work and will miss out of the first leg.

“I had spoken to Head Coach Alivereti Dere at the beginning of the 7s camp of my intentions to return to Sri Lanka and he had agreed to release me which I am grateful for”.

Cakau didn’t divulge any information as to why he had to return to Sri Lanka but said that he would be back in time for the second leg of the series which is in Dubai.

The Digicel Fiji 7s team will be defending their title in Gold Coast and Cakau has wished them well.

"I wish the boys all the best in Gold Coast as they will be going in as the favourites, they just need to stick to the game plan and play as a team" he said.

Dere says that he had a long talk with Cakau and had released him on the agreement that he will return in time for Dubai.

“He has some personal business to take care of, so he has asked that he be released, which I agreed to, but it hasn’t deterred our preparations for Gold Coast”.

“Once Setefano returns he will rejoin the team, and be legible to travel with them to Dubai”.

Cakau will be accompanied by Digicel Fiji 7s team mate Dan Rawaqa.

Dere is expected to name his captain next week after he releases the team list for the Gold Coast 7s.
