Suva thrashed a spirited Vatukoula side with a convincing 32-11 win at Albert Park yesterday, in their bid to get their hands on the Digicel Cup.
Vatukoula’s Sanivalati Kenatale booted a penalty into the 10th and 29th minute of the game giving the visitors the lead in the first half.
Former national 7s player and playmaker Nikola Matawalu displayed super and outstanding rugby throughout the 80 minute game as he scored the first try with a unsuccessful conversion in the 17th minute of the game.
Suva was boosted with the inclusion of Digicel Fiji 7s utility back Osea Kolinisau who also scored a try for Suva in the 53rd minute of the game and James Brown a former 7s rep as well who also had a chance in stamping his mark on the scoreline in the 63rd minute.
Vatukoula led a slight 6-5 at halftime but allowed Suva to gain momentum in the second spell through lapses of attention.
Vatukoula flyer Patemo Buto scored their only try of the game in the 43rd minute of the game but it was not enough as the hosts did not want to settle for anything less than a win.
Suva’s Kaminieli Neiqisa led the charge with two conversions and a penalty, while teammates Benedito Koroi and Jone Saukuru added to the tally with a try each in the second half.
An elated Suva coach, Salimoni Ravouvou said the message at halftime to the players was to believe in themselves, lift the pace of the game and to play basic simple rugby.
Suva faces Rewa in their last game this week.
