Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) staff members got into the Diwali spirit today by dressing in the appropriate manner to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights.
Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer Keni Dakuidreketi believes its important staff members get to share and enjoy in each other’s culture.
“We come from many backgrounds, even within the office, so it’s important we show respect and understanding to each other at all times no matter where each of us is from,” Dakuidreketi said.
While Diwali may be the festival of lights it’s also a time for eating a lot of traditional sweetmeats and Rugby House, for a while today, looked like a sweet factory with Fiji rugby friends delivering packages of Diwali sweets to staff as FRU marketing manager Tevita Waqairawai revealed.
“I’m stuffed, trues up, I don’t think I’ll need dinner tonight or even breakfast tomorrow – I’ve eaten too many sweets,” Waqairawai said.
With tomorrow being the official Diwali holiday, celebrated in Fiji with a public holiday, a number of Hindu staff members have already taken it upon themselves to invite staff members to their respective homes with the promise of even more sweets.
HAPPY DIWALI ALL FROM FIJI RUGBY!
