Level 2 & 3 Coach Refresher Course

LEVEL 2 COACH REFRESHER COURSE

An up skilling course for the Nasinu Kaji Coaches was held at Delainamasi Government School on Thursday last week. Out of the possible 52 coaches in the Nasinu District, only 16 coaches turned up. This is after names were put out in last week’s Rugby Lift out.

Level 2 & 3 Coach Refresher Course

Association President Mr Sikeli Vosailagi supported the idea of having regular visitations by FRU and World Rugby Educators to assist coaches with their diaries and session planning. The next meeting will be on the 28th of May and hopefully by then we would have finished our first round of games and in the end achieving our goals of accrediting these coaches to L2.

National Development Manager Sale Sorovaki also mentioned the challenge for our local coaches to complete assessments because they cannot complete requirements for a diary. What we will do is work with the coaches on a weekly basis in helping them to complete their requirements. Level 2 Coaching course requires the coach (be it Kaji, Deans of Club) to do a lot of analysis on their teams. Our technical expertise is very thin and we want the local coaches to put a lot of thought and emphasis on their game analysis. Challenge themselves with any given scenarios on the field. The coaches took a lot out of Thursday’s session and FRU Development Unit is looking to conduct similar refresher course all over Fiji in the coming weeks.

LEVEL 3 COACH REFRESHER COURSE

Four Coaches turned up for this session. Talemo Waqa (World Rugby Regional Training Coordinator) facilitated this refresher course and reminded the four coaches of the importance of having your whole season captured. The last time a course was held in Fiji was in 2009. FRU National Development Manager Sale Sorovaki said that even though we had gone through a L3 Coaching Course, similar to Level 2, our completion rate is very slow. Refresher courses like this are now essential for coaches to complete their accreditations. Elenoa Kunatuba who coaches the Police White Team in the Suva Rugby Competition said she has most of her work available, it’s just collating all these information and presenting it to World Rugby Officials is what’s left for me. I will try my best to complete it this season.

The refresher course will be a regular feature in the FRU Development Unit’s program this year.
