FRU Conducts Front Row Clinic

Vodafone Flying Fijians Coach John McKee and Technical coach, Allen Muir conducted a three day Front Row clinic which included the core scrum techniques for locks.

The clinics were attended by all comers, players, coaches and clubs from around the country and were held at the High Performance Unit Gyms in Suva, Nadi and Sigatoka.

McKee said that that the front row program was important for FRU to develop the domestic game and to help us become more competitive on the international stage and develop and promote a front row culture in Fiji.

“The Fijian Rugby needs to be stronger upfront to be competitive on the world stage” McKee said.

“I don’t think we’ve really had it before and know that at the top level of the game where I’ve done a lot of work recently, the scrum is such a critical part of the game”.

The scrum is one of the areas the Fiji teams are usually under pressure; McKee says that with these clinics we can start working early with the front row at all levels to help them improve their technique not only for the domestic but also for the international competition.

Allen Muir was happy with the turnout and encouraged other coaches and players to turn up for the next clinic.

“I am glad that there is a lot of interest shown for this front row program. We plan to hold another one in late June and I would like to encourage everyone to come and attend the clinics”.
