Telecom Fijiana Named for 2017 Sydney 7s

The Telecom Fijiana team to the 2017 HSBC Women’s 7s World Series in Sydney, has been named today by the Fiji Rugby Union in consultation with Telecom Fijiana Coach Iliesa Tanivula.

The selection sees three players making a comeback into the team after a long break. Talica Vodo and Asinate Savu both missed out on the Olympics selection last year, while Jiowana Sauto missed out on Dubai due to an injury sustained during the 2016 Oceania 7s.

Telecom Fijiana Coach, Iliesa Tanivula says that the girls have sacrificed a lot to be selected into the team and they deserved to represent Fiji at the Women’s 7s Series in Sydney.

“The girls have sacrificed their family time over the festive season to do the hard yards. It was not easy but it is something that’s got to be done. The training sessions were tough, and ending up at the sand dunes at the end of each week was a killer but they kept edging on.”

“For them it is something they love to do for their families and for the nation. We are looking forward to a good outing in Sydney. Our main aim is to improve on our performance from Dubai.”

FRU CEO, John O’Connor congratulated the team on their selection and wished them well for the tournament.

“Congratulations on your selection into the team for the Sydney 7s especially to the three girls for making a comeback into the team. This shows everyone that with determination and hard work there is no stopping you from achieving your goal. But bear in mind that being selected is just the first step. The next step is for you to go out there and do your best and help the Team achieve its goal and targets”.

“We wish you all the best and remember that when you get on that field, you not only represent yourself and your families, but you also represent your village, your vanua, your team mates back home, all young girls and women and more importantly you represent Fiji and all Fijians.” You have proven that you can compete with the Top Teams in Dubai and I challenge you to go out there and try and win the tournament.”

“The Telecom Fijiana have done well in their recent tournaments and we are sure they will perform equally good in this leg. We wish the team all the very best; and are glad to be associated as their sponsor” said Telecom Fiji CEO Mr Mothilal De Silva.

The Telecom Fijiana team will depart our shores for Sydney on Monday, 30 January, 2016.
